SUMMARY:
When it comes to puzzle games, Tetris is the king. So I wanted to make a similar game that kept to the theme of 'Grow'. Rather than trying to clear the screen, in Block Locker you want to grow your stack of Big Blocks to advance to the next level.
I downloaded some free audio assets of the unity store, but all the visuals are mine.
This is my first completed game as well as my first game jam. I had a lot of fun and am very please with the final product.
Special thanks to @Zigurous for the basic Tetris tutorial.
Enjoy!

Great job! Visuals & gameplay are spot on, even got the last chance to slide a piece over when it touches before it 'locks in' just right.
I agree that some variation to the timer would be nice. I could even see removing the visual timer and adding a sound or visual queue that the line is about to disappear.
Overall though real cool spin on a classic that feels like it would fit right in along side it.
Yeah the timer does seem to be the area most people think could use some tweaking. I will give it some thought.
I like the idea of a visual indicator on the play surface as well.
Thanks!
First of all, congrats on finishing you first game jam !
You made a fun twist on the tetris formula, having to deal with the screen becoming filled and having to avoid small gaps was pretty compelling.
For some constructive criticism, the gameplay felt repetitive a bit too quickly. There is no real variation throughout the game (timer is always 20 seconds for example, I feel like the timer should become smaller and smaller on every level) and not having a swap piece button with your concept is really punishing when your piece doesn't fit anywhere.
But all and all, you made something pretty polished, with a nice hook and great controls, good job !
Keep it up, I bet you'll make other great jam gams in the future.
And btw, I managed a score of 18 005 on level 6 before losing ;)
It is punishing I agree haha. Even worse is when you hard drop a piece to lock multiple lines, and the bottom line clears just before, leaving you with a MESS haha.
Thank you. I'm glad you liked it and appreciate the feedback.
I did try a version where the timer got shorter level to level, the issue is with a shorter timer the game becomes easier. If you have some holes at the bottom you can just wait them out and it turns into a game about waiting rather than playing.
But we'll see what others have to say. There are times once you get to the max speed (lvl. 12) where you REALLY want that timer to be moving faster haha.
Thanks for playing and commenting!
